Fellow HIGHLANDS COALITION member WENDY JOESPH graciously agreed to report on the FREE trip to the NEWPORT JAZZ FESTIVAL for some lucky HIGHLANDS residents:
Sponsored by Lynne and Mike, founders of "Jazz is a Rainbow http://news.wbru.com/2009/08/the-pulse-81609-jazz-is-a-rainbow-entertains-and-teaches/ 15 Adults with 2 children boarded the Deluxe transportation from McGinn buses to the Newport Jazz Festival.
We spent the ride in air-conditioned comfort. Once at the Festival, we were ushered right through the crowds, given a free T-shirt, and $10 cash for lunch. We had a part of the lawn that was practically Center stage! that was set out especially for us all.
We saw Regina Carter's "Reverse Thread", a solo performance by Hiromi, and Wynton Marsalis. Unfortunately, the bus left for the drive home before Wynton was through, but thanks to Jazz is a Rainbow, I was able to Be There; a dream that I've had for many years now is fulfilled!
